What is NCMA?

The purpose of this Association shall be to promote proficiency of city administrators/managers, county administrators/managers and other local government administrators and aid in the improvement of local government administration in general; to provide a clearing house for information on matters of interest or concern to all local governments and to establish a cadre of local government chief executives to devise and seek the enactment of legislation for the benefit of all municipalities and counties.

Its services, programs and publications are guided by these NCMA goals:

  • To be the professional and educational association of appointed local government managers.
  • To strengthen the competence of appointed local government managers and to ensure qualified talent to meet local governmental needs.
  • To strengthen the quality of local government by promoting professional city and county management.
  • To provide information and analysis of data, management ideas, and methods for local government management and to stimulate and participate in the development and translation of new concepts of local government management.
  • To contribute to the understanding and resolution of local government issues.
